Precision matters. From billboard-scale graphics to tiny product packaging, follow these industrial standards to ensure your QR codes scan instantly on any device.

Resolution & Format

Always use Vector formats (SVG, PDF) for printing. Unlike PNGs, vectors never pixelate, ensuring the "data modules"have razor-sharp edges for the camera to lock onto.

The Quiet Zone

A QR code needs "breathing room". Maintain a clear margin of at least4 modules wide around the code. Without this, the scanner cannot distinguish the code from the surrounding design.

Color Contrast

Scanners require contrast. The "Data Modules" must be significantly darker than the "Background". Aim for a 4:1 contrast ratioor higher.

Calculate Minimum Size

Apply the 10:1 Ratio Rule. Determine the average distance the user will scan from. If they are 20 inches away, the QR code should be at least 2 inches square (5cm). Never go below 0.8 inches (2cm) for standard retail codes.

Optimize Pattern Complexity

The more data you encode, the denser the pattern. For printed assets, use a Shortened URL or Static URLto keep the "module size" large. Larger modules are more resilient to ink bleed and low-quality paper.

Select the Correct DPI

When exporting for print, ensure a minimum of 300 DPI. If printing on corrugated cardboard or textured paper, increase the Error Correction Level (Level H) to compensate for potential print distortion.
